I worked with the talented Noah Tsutsui (PM / UX) and Amy Liu (UI / UX) to help get this project out the door. The biggest challenge was the memory constraints when dealing with an iOS Keyboard Extension. Gif's aren't cheap memory-wise and a keyboard extension for iOS on an iPhone 6 will barely dole you 30MB of memory to work with in total. Other challenges include converting video to gifs, retiming (speed remapping plus ping-pong effect), text overlays and filters. That fact that you had to copy gifs to clipboard so users could "paste" into a message wasn't the best user experience but KIMOJI and others had the same constraints. I would love to - and still might - convert this project to an iMessage app for kicks.
